Lithuanian fintech company survives cyberattack

The Lithuanian-based financial technology company Paysera announced on Saturday that it had fully restored services in the wake of a cyberattack that was waged on Friday.

“We apologise to our customers and E-commerce shoppers who experienced inconveniences,” the company said in a statement. “A DDoS attack hindered system accessibility and slowed down system performance, but it never compromised customer data or funds.”

Paysera says that he Distributed Denial of Service attack began around 1:30 PM on Friday, and most issues were resolved by 3:30 PM that same day. The remaining issues were addressed by midnight.

A DDoS attack is meant to overwhelm websites with large numbers of requests so as to overload their support systems.

Paysera had experienced a similar attack the previous week. The company began restoring services gradually and two hours after the attack. Full restoration of services was announced the following day.

Paysera CEO Marijus Planciunas said at the time that the attack was a fairly well-planned operation.
