The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) will organize a Latvian business trade mission to Sweden on May 11, 2026, led by Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis. A total of 76 representatives from Latvian companies have confirmed their participation, demonstrating strong interest in expanding cooperation in one of Latvia’s most important export and investment markets.
The central event of the trade mission will be the Latvia–Sweden Business Forum in Stockholm, bringing together representatives from the governments, business communities, and investment sectors of both countries. From the Swedish side, participation has been confirmed by Swedish Minister for Foreign Trade Benjamin Dousa and Business Sweden CEO Jan Larsson, highlighting the political and economic significance of the event.
The visit will also include high-level meetings with Swedish officials and business leaders, as well as discussions on cooperation opportunities in green transition projects, construction, engineering, the defense industry, and other sectors. The program will feature individual B2B meetings, industry-focused sessions, and meetings with potential investors.
Minister of Economics Viktors Valainis emphasized the importance of international cooperation for Latvia’s economy:
“Latvia’s economic growth is closely linked to our ability to remain active in international markets. Strong partnerships with countries such as Sweden mean not only new business opportunities, but also greater economic security and resilience. At a time when geopolitical challenges are increasing, cooperation with reliable partners becomes a strategic necessity — an opportunity to strengthen both our companies and the country’s long-term competitiveness.”
Sweden remains one of Latvia’s most important foreign trade partners. In 2025, Sweden ranked fifth in total trade turnover with Latvia, reaching €2.6 billion. Latvian exports to Sweden amounted to €1.62 billion, ensuring a positive bilateral trade balance. Sweden is also the largest foreign investor in Latvia, with accumulated direct investments totaling €7.7 billion.
LIAA Director Ieva Jāgere noted that economic cooperation between Latvia and Sweden is already strong, but still holds considerable growth potential.
“We are seeing rapid growth in service exports, as well as promising opportunities in technology and industrial sectors. The business forum and individual meetings will allow Latvian companies to establish direct contacts with partners and launch new cooperation projects.”
The trade mission will include Latvian companies from various sectors, including information and communication technologies, the defense industry, construction, metalworking, food production, and others. Among the participants are several major Latvian companies, including HansaMatrix, Latvijas Mobilais Telefons, UPB, Primekss, CMB Housing Factory, Jelgavas Machine Building Plant, as well as food producers Lāči, Very Berry, and Ķelmēni.
The goal of the trade mission is to promote the export capacity of Latvian companies, strengthen cooperation with Swedish partners, and attract new investments to the Latvian economy.
Participation in the international trade mission is organized by LIAA within the framework of the European Union co-financed Innovative Business Development Programme for Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs), supported by the European Regional Development Fund and state funding. Companies may participate either by covering the costs themselves or by receiving support for eligible expenses.
