Latvian tourists rescued in Kazakhstan

Two tourists from Latvia who were lost in the Aktau Mountains and lost contacts with their group have been found in Kazakhstan after an extensive search operation, the Zakon.kz online news portal reports.

The tourists arrived in Kazakhstan via a travel company and started to explore a mountain range that is 44 km from the village of Basshi.

The tourists lost contact in the remote terrain, and the situation was made more complex by the fact that night was falling.

Police and other emergency officials including forest rangers and volunteers were mobilized for the search.  Aerial drones were also brought to bear.

The tourists were finally spotted by a helicopter which signalled to them.  Although the situation seemed desperate, the tourists were soon found by police officers who picked them up.
