German bank to open office in Vilnius

Commerzbank, which is one of Germany’s leading banks, has told the BNS News Agency that it will open a representative office in Lithuania on December 17: “The opening of Commerzbank’s representative office in Vilnius is scheduled for December 17 this year,” the bank announced.

The plan for the new office was first announced in August, and Commerzbank says that it is all part of an international strategy for expansion.

The new office in Vilnius will serve as a hub for all three Baltic States, and Commerzbank will focus on trade and project financing in the region, its representatives have said. Another key priority will be deeper co-operation with the public sector and the local industry of financial services.

Lithuanian Economy and Innovation Minister Ausrine Armonaite said back in August that although the German bank is only opening a representative office, that is still great news for Lithuanian business.

Commerzbank, for its part, has described Lithuania as a “dynamic and innovative player on the European and the global stage.”
