Estonian parlt raises teachers’ salaries

The Estonian parliament on Wednesday adopted the government-initiated amendments to this year’s State Budget Act, with which an additional nine million euros will be allocated to the teachers’ salary fund, so that the calculated average salary of teachers will rise to 2,184 euros.

The law amendments were supported by 67 MPs, with one MP casting their vote against them.

According to the amendments, the minimum salary for teachers will be increased from 1,803 euros to 1,820 euros, plus a 20 percent differentiation component.

In total, the calculated average salary of teachers will increase by 6.6 percent, to 2,184 euros. For this purpose, 9.27 million euros in the state budget will be directed to the local government support fund.

The funds for the additional salary hike for teachers were found in the budgets of the Ministry of Education and Research, Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications, the Ministry of Regional Affairs an Agriculture, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Social Affairs. The bill does not change the total amount of the state budget.
