Demand for a high-quality electricity supply and sufficient capacity will increase next year, while public expectations regarding service quality will also continue to grow, Sandis Jansons, Chairman of the Board of electricity distribution system operator Sadales tīkls, told LETA.

He said that in 2026 Sadales tīkls’ main priority will remain unchanged – ensuring a high-quality, reliable, and stable electricity supply.

“Given the Ministry of Climate and Energy’s forecasts for the growing role of electricity in the national economy, demand for a high-quality electricity supply and capacity availability will only increase, as will public expectations of quality,” Jansons said. He explained that this will require increased investment in infrastructure, including at the pan-European level.

Jansons noted that the European Commission (EC) has included in its new plan the task of launching more centralized and proactive electricity network planning. Experts have pointed out that while European Union (EU) member states have invested heavily in renewable energy, the modernization and expansion of electricity grids has lagged significantly behind.

Sadales tīkls continues to work to attract EU funding in order to accelerate development while minimizing the impact on tariffs. The current geopolitical situation also requires further strengthening of network resilience, and the company plans to seek EU funding for this purpose as well. In parallel, Sadales tīkls is strengthening staff readiness to protect infrastructure during various crises, including by establishing and expanding National Guard sub-units within the company.

“The availability of EU funding is crucial. To meet the growing needs of customers and businesses, we must invest in electricity supply infrastructure now, and this is a prerequisite for strengthening the entire economy,” Jansons said.

As reported, Sadales tīkls’ turnover in the first nine months of last year amounted to EUR 275.356 million, while profit reached EUR 18.366 million.

In the first nine months of this year, the company posted turnover of EUR 281.133 million, up 2.1 percent year-on-year, while profit increased by 20.6 percent to EUR 22.143 million.

Sadales tīkls is part of the state-owned Latvenergo Group. The company operates, renovates, and plans the development of electricity distribution networks, monitors electricity consumption, implements measures to reduce losses, oversees electricity metering, and establishes new connections.
