A flight operated by Latvia’s national airline airBaltic en route from Riga to Reykjavik last Sunday returned to Riga due to a malfunction in the cabin air supply system, the airline’s representatives informed LETA.

According to data from the Flightradar24 website, the airBaltic flight departed Riga for Reykjavik at 23:01 on Sunday, July 27, and returned to Riga Airport at 23:40.

airBaltic explained that shortly after takeoff, the pilots detected an indication of a malfunction in the cabin air supply and temperature control system, which limited the aircraft’s ability to continue the flight over a longer distance.

As a precaution, the decision was made to return to Riga, where the necessary technical support and spare parts were available.

The airline added that before landing, the aircraft circled near Riga Airport to burn excess fuel and reduce its weight, in accordance with aviation safety procedures.

Upon its return, the aircraft underwent technical inspection, and after being confirmed as flight-ready, the journey to Reykjavik was resumed.
