Amount of raw milk supplied by Latvian dairy farmers up 4.9% in February

The amount of raw milk supplied by Latvian dairy farmers in February 2024 rose 4.9 percent against the same period a year ago to 63,824 tons, according to the information from the Latvian Agricultural Data Center.

Data shows that the amount of organic raw milk purchased from Latvian farmers this past February rose 2.2 percent year-on-year to 2,738 tons. Processing of organic milk increased by 0.5 percent year-on-year to 1,711 tons.

In February 2024, there were 8,359 dairy herds registered in Latvia, down 11.2 percent from the same period a year ago. Of all the dairy herds, 4,340 supplied milk to dairies in February, down 11.5 percent from the same month a year ago.

The number of dairy cows in Latvia continued to shrink as well. In February 2023, there were 127,534 dairy cows registered in Latvia as compared to 118,168 dairy cows in February 2024. Of all the dairy cows registered in Latvia, 108,441 were producing milk in February 2024, down 6 percent year-on-year.
