Laude Smart Intermodal – now it’s time for Lithuania

In cooperation with the Lithuanian carrier LTG Cargo, the company from Toruń is carrying out transports from Lithuania. Thanks to the European standard gauge tracks (1435 mm) and the transshipment capabilities at the intermodal terminal in Šeštokai, the Polish intermodal operator can handle a wide range of cargo flows, including those to customers in southern Poland.

“Our containers will become increasingly frequent guests on Lithuanian tracks,” says Marcin Witczak, CEO of Laude Smart Intermodal. “This is an excellent example of cross-border cooperation showing that rail is – and should be – the backbone of the logistics system, where combining road and rail transport allows us to fully leverage the strengths of both modes,” he adds. “I would also like to emphasize that we have a truly outstanding partner in these operations, and cooperation with LTG Cargo proves how much can be achieved efficiently when all parties involved in a logistics project are focused on collaboration.”

It is worth noting that LTG Cargo holds a carrier license also in Latvia and Estonia and, together with its subsidiary in Poland, co-creates the North–West rail corridor.

On the Lithuania–Poland route, Laude Smart Intermodal containers transport, among others, bulk cargo. However, thanks to a wide range of available container solutions, virtually any type of goods can be transported.

“Laude containers and the technological solutions behind them enable optimization of transport cost per unit of cargo weight, which is particularly important for heavy goods. Depending on the type, our containers can carry up to 30 tonnes of cargo in a single unit within an intermodal chain. Compared to standard road transport, this makes a significant difference, especially in times of high diesel prices,” explains Witczak.

In the future, the company aims to offer its intermodal solutions for deliveries to and from Nordic countries using Baltic Sea shipping.

“We have experience in handling such transport via the Black Sea to Turkey, so the Baltic Sea would not be a challenge for us. We are fully convinced that our ‘Time for Revolution’ project, based on extensive use of 23-foot containers with side/top/rear loading capabilities, creates opportunities for broader application in the Baltic countries. The discussions we are currently holding with partners from these countries should, over time, bring new opportunities and innovative logistics solutions,” concludes Marcin Witczak.
