Latvia’s leading digital media company Delfi has signed an agreement to acquire Baltijas Datoru Akadēmija (BDA), a training centre and subsidiary of Tet. BDA is one of the largest professional training providers in Latvia and the Baltics. The transaction marks Delfi transformation from a traditional news media outlet into a comprehensive digital knowledge and services ecosystem.

A new business direction

With this acquisition, Delfi enters the professional education sector, complementing its existing portfolio of digital content, subscriptions and events. With more than 30 years of industry experience, BDA will enable the development of new synergies and innovative formats – ranging from in-person training to digital learning programmes – while diversifying Delfi revenue streams in the growing EdTech sector.

“We believe that in today’s society, reliable news and high-quality knowledge are closely interconnected. While news helps people understand what is happening, education equips them with the skills to act on it. The expertise of Baltijas Datoru Akadēmija in professional education perfectly complements our experience in content creation. Together, we will develop new formats for professional skills development, strengthening Delfi position as a modern digital company,” says Jānis Grīviņš, Chairman of the Management Board at Delfi.

“Baltijas Datoru Akadēmija has been a trusted partner in professional development for more than thirty years, providing modern, practical skills for the digital age. We are truly grateful for everything we have achieved together so far – it has made a meaningful contribution to both our growth and that of our partners,” says Uldis Tatarčuks, CEO of Tet. “2025 was the most successful year in the company’s history. To sustain this growth momentum, we believe it is essential to embrace new ideas and approaches. With its expertise and strong capabilities, Delfi, as the new owner, is well positioned to take Baltijas Datoru Akadēmija to the next stage of its development. We wish them every success in this next phase and hope they continue to achieve new milestones while creating lasting value.”

“This change of ownership marks a logical and strategic step in BDA’s growth. Over the past three years, we have developed a scalable business model, implemented automation and artificial intelligence solutions, and helped teams at more than 850 companies build their digital skills. Becoming part of the “Delfi” group opens up broader opportunities to continue this work, expand access to digital skills development, and create training programmes and educational events that reflect the evolving needs of today’s labour market and technological landscape,” says Laima Ziediņa-Mikaljūna, CEO of Baltijas Datoru Akadēmija. “Our focus remains unchanged – we are committed to equipping people with practical skills that support their professional growth and enable them to confidently leverage the opportunities created by technology.”

Baltijas Datoru Akadēmija will continue operating under its brand

BDA will continue to operate under its existing brand and will remain a legally separate entity within the Delfi group. The company’s activities will continue to be driven by its team of professionals and instructors, delivering practical, skills-based training and professional development programmes.

Joining Delfi will support the further development of new education initiatives, including digital learning programmes, professional skills academies, conferences, as well as initiatives in artificial intelligence, such as AI School. BDA’s AI School is already available free of charge until the end of May to anyone interested.

Legal advisory for the transaction was provided by Sorainen, while financial advisory services were delivered by Ernst & Young. Financial details of the transaction are not disclosed.
