As the Milan–Cortina 2026 Winter Games continue through February, competitors from Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania have already recorded some of their strongest results at this edition of the Olympics.

For Latvia, the highlight so far has come on the medal stage. Elīna Ieva Bota captured silver in the women’s singles luge, giving Latvia a prestigious podium finish in one of its traditional strong sports. Just days later, short-track speed skater Roberts Krūzbergs also earned a bronze medal in the men’s 1500 m, marking Latvia’s first Olympic medal ever in short-track speed skating at these Games. Outside the medal events, the Latvian men’s ice hockey team produced a memorable result by defeating Germany 4-3 — their first Olympic hockey victory since 2014 — with forward Dans Locmelis scoring twice in a dramatic group-stage matchup. Other Latvijas athletes have been competitive across disciplines from biathlon and skeleton to alpine skiing, with several placements in the top 20 and ongoing participation still to come.

For Estonia, while the team has not yet reached the podium, there have been noteworthy competitive performances across several events. In the biathlon mixed relay, the Estonian team finished in the mid-field (15th), showing depth in one of the sport’s most challenging combined events. Estonia also made history in curling, with the mixed doubles pair making their Olympic debut and scoring four points in a dramatic end against Switzerland, showcasing strong tactical play despite an eventual loss. In skiing and other technical events such as alpine and Nordic combined, Estonian competitors continue to post solid results, including top-30 finishes, as the programme progresses.

Lithuania’s 17-athlete team has likewise continued to compete across a diverse set of winter sports, including biathlon, cross-country skiing, alpine skiing, and figure skating. While no Baltic neighbour has yet claimed a medal for Lithuania at Milan–Cortina 2026, 🇱🇹 Allison Reed and Saulius Ambrulevičius delivered one of the nation’s stronger performances in ice dance, placing competitively in a deeply talented field and building momentum for the remainder of the Games. Lithuanian cross-country skiers and biathletes have continued to race in the main fields, with the men’s 4×7.5 km biathlon relay currently among their more notable relative results.

Across the Baltic nations, the story of these Games is still being written. With several key events still to be contested, including individual speed skating distances, ski competitions, and later rounds in hockey and sliding sports, athletes from Latvia, Estonia, and Lithuania remain firmly in the pursuit of personal bests, historic breakthroughs, and potential medal opportunities.
