Signature drive for referendum on dissolution of Saeima has collected 23,000 signatures so far

The signature drive for referendum on dissolution of Saeima in five days has collected about 23,000 signatures, according to information published on Latvijas.lv portal.

As reported, two signature drives were launched last week – for a referendum on the dissolution of the Saeima and for a referendum on the institution of partnership.

The collection of signatures for the referendum on the dissolution of the 14th Saeima has been initiated by Latvia First, Stability, the Force of People’s Power, Sovereign Power, People’s Servants for Latvia, Association Young Latvians and the political alliances Foundation-LV and New Harmony.

Harmony party, which is not represented in parliament, also released an appeal on Monday, urging people to sign for the dissolution of Latvia’s current parliament.

The collection of signatures will be open for one year. In order to initiate a referendum on dissolution of the parliament, at least 10 percent of eligible voters or 154,241 Latvian citizens aged 18 or over, must sign the initiative.
