Police detain person who threw explosive mixture into Occupation Museum

The State Police have detained the person who likely threw the explosive mixture into the Occupation Museum in Riga earlier this week, Interior Minister Rihards Kozlovskis (New Unity) confirmed to LETA.

He is very grateful to the State Security Service and the State Police for their professional work in identifying and apprehending this person.

The Minister believes that the professional work not only resulted in the apprehension of the person, but also in the speed with which it was done, despite the fact that the attacker had made preparations.

“The excellent cooperation with the Riga Municipal Police (RMP) played an indispensable role here, and the rapid detection of the crime was thanks to the RMP Video Surveillance Center,” the Minister said.

Criminal proceedings have been initiated on the basis of Article 185(2) of the Criminal Code, which provides for imprisonment for up to ten years.

Kozlovskis points out that this crime must be seen in the context of the hybrid war in which we are currently living, and that such crimes are a serious threat to national security. He hopes that this crime will be judged with all the severity of the law and that the punishment will be appropriate to the offence.

As reported, on the night from Monday to Tuesday, an explosive mixture was thrown into the office of the Latvian Occupation Museum director Solvita Viba.
