New passenger car market in Latvia grows 10.6% in 2023; most popular – Toyota, Skoda and VW

In 2023, Latvian new passenger car registration rose 10.6 percent against 2022, with 21,146 new vehicles registered, the Latvian Auto Association informed.

Registration of new light passenger cars rose 10.4 percent to 18,447, while registration of new light commercial cars increased 12.2 percent to 2,669 vehicles.

Toyota was the most popular car make in Latvia, accounting for 21.8 percent (4,618 cars) of all new cars registered last year. Sales of Toyota cars increased by 33.7 percent from a year ago.

Skoda was the second most popular car brand with a 12.6 percent market share and 2,665 cars registered, which is a 38.5 percent rise from 2022. Volkswagen was third with a 11.1 percent market share and 2,337 new cars registered, up 11.1 percent year-on-year.

Dacia followed with 4.6 percent of the new car market and 968 autos sold in 2023, down 3 percent on year. Renault took 4.4 percent of Latvia’s new car market with 933 vehicles sold last year, down 17.7 percent on year.
