Estonia has begun deploying fixed counter-drone detection and surveillance systems along its eastern border with Russia, with the first equipment already operational in the country’s southeast.

The initial systems cover three sections of the land border between the Estonia–Latvia–Russia tri-border area and the Luhamaa crossing. Estonia plans to extend the surveillance capability across its entire border with Russia by the end of the year.

According to Estonian Public Broadcasting (ERR), additional surveillance equipment is being procured as construction and preparatory work continues along further sections of the border. The development of Estonia’s eastern border and its enhanced drone-surveillance capabilities is being supported by European Union co-financing.
