As part of preparations for the 15th Saeima elections, the Central Election Commission (CEC) is launching a nationwide training programme for municipal election commissions and polling station staff. Five regional seminars will be held across Latvia.

To support effective election preparations, the CEC is organizing seminars for municipal election commissions and polling station personnel covering key aspects of the electoral process. Topics will include crisis response procedures, business continuity planning, vote counting, and the use of the election platform and related information systems. The seminars will be held in five Latvian cities and will be attended by the Chair of the CEC and Commission staff, specialists from the State Digital Development Agency (VDAA), and representatives of the election IT system developer, Latvijas Mobilais Telefons (LMT).

The first seminar was held already in Limbaži on 31 July, followed by training sessions in Gulbene on 4 August, Kuldīga on 7 August, Līvāni on 11 August, and Riga on 14 August. Approximately 400 participants are expected to attend the seminar series. Representatives of regional and national media are invited to attend any of the training events.

“Public confidence in elections is built on thorough professional preparation and transparent communication about that work. These training sessions are an essential part of the preparations for the 15th Saeima elections, helping to ensure that the electoral process is conducted consistently, professionally, and in full compliance with legal requirements across Latvia,” said CEC Chair Māris Zviedris.

The seminars will address current issues related to election administration and security, the operation of the election platform and information systems, and the practical organization of voting on election day, 3 October. Particular attention will be given to the use of technological solutions, data processing, and ensuring a common understanding of election procedures across all polling stations.
