1,125 candidates running for the Tallinn City Council

A total of 11 political parties, three electoral alliances, and 13 independent candidates have submitted their registration documents for the upcoming Tallinn City Council elections. In total, 1,125 candidates are competing for seats in the new City Council, which will be elected on 19 October. Candidate numbers will be assigned by a draw this Friday.

The registration deadline ended on Tuesday, 9 September, at 18:00. The new City Council will consist of 79 members, elected from eight electoral districts, with each city district forming one electoral district.

Of the total, political parties submitted 1,097 candidates, electoral alliances 15, and independent candidates 13. Eesti Keskerakond submitted 266 candidates, ISAMAA Erakond 182, Sotsiaaldemokraatlik Erakond 170, Eesti Reformierakond 106, Erakond Parempoolsed 104, Estonia 200 a total of 100, EKRE 88, Eestimaa Rohelised 36, KOOS organisatsioon 20, Eesti Rahvuslased ja Konservatiivid 16, and Vabaerakond Aru Pähe 9 candidates.

The electoral alliance “Plaan B” submitted 7 candidates, Tallinlaste Valimislitt 4 candidates, and the “Electoral Alliance for the Repeal of the Education Reform and the Restoration of Russian-Language Education” also 4 candidates. In addition, 13 independent candidates were registered.

Candidate numbers will be assigned by draw on Friday, 12 September, at 11:00 in the Tallinna esitluskeskus (Vabaduse väljak 7). The draw is a public event and can also be followed online on the Tallinn Election Committee’s website: https://www.tallinn.ee/et/valimised/liisuheitmine.
