In January-September this year, the terminals of the Port of Ventspils handled 6.456 million tons of cargo – a 14.7 percent increase compared with the corresponding period in 2024, according to information published by the Ministry of Transport.
In January-September 2025, 3.766 million tons of cargo were shipped from the Port of Ventspils, up 8.5 percent year-on-year, while the volume of cargo received rose by 24.8 percent to 2.689 million tons.
During the same period, Ventspils port terminals handled 1.843 million tons of bulk cargo – 1.7 percent less than in January-September 2024 – 3.184 million tons of liquid cargo, up 28.3 percent, and 1.429 million tons of general cargo, a 12.2 percent increase.
In January-September this year, 2.938 million tons of oil products were handled at the Port of Ventspils terminals, a 38.7 percent increase year-on-year. In addition, 1.234 million tons of ro-ro (roll-on/roll-off) cargo were handled, up 21.8 percent, as well as 1.145 million tons of coal, representing a 60.5 percent increase.
As previously reported, in 2024 the terminals of the Port of Ventspils handled 8.234 million tons of cargo, 21 percent less than in 2023.
Ventspils is Latvia’s second-largest port by cargo turnover.
