Stanley Cup to travel to Latvia for second year in a row

The NHL’s Stanley Cup trophy will be travelling to Latvia for the second year in a row, ice hockey player Uvis Balinskis confirmed to Latvian Television.

Balinskis’ Florida Panthers triumphed in the Stanley Cup finals at the end of June, defeating the Edmonton Oilers 4-3 for the first title in the franchise’s history.

Balinskis, who made his NHL debut this season, did not play in the Stanley Cup finals, but was on the team’s roster for the playoffs. In 26 matches for the Panthers this season, Balinskis scored one goal and made two assists.

”I was called yesterday and told when the cup could arrive in Latvia. The Stanley Cup will be in Latvia once again at the beginning of August. I will be able to show it to children and everyone else, and I am happy about this,” said Balinskis.

In the previous Stanley Cup finals, the Las Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Panthers 4-1. Latvian forward Teodors Blugers played for the Golden Knights, and he brought the Stanley Cup to Latvia.
