Riga public transportation company to buy new buses

The Riga public transport company Rigas Satiksme is planning to purchase 120 new buses, the company told the LETA news agency.

The company has launched market analysis in preparation of the purchase of 60 electric and 60 diesel-run buses, each of them 18 metres long.

The purpose of the market study is to identify possible delivery dates, technical solutions and indicative costs.

After that is done, a procurement process will be launched.

The market study is to offer comprehensive information about new tech solutions in the automotive industry, including hybrid drive options, active and passive safety systems, autonomous driving options, remote diagnostics, etc.

Delivery deadlines and planned costs will also be clarified.

Rigas Satiksme will particularly focus on solutions which contribute toward the more efficient and sustainable operation of public transportation vehicles. Ease of maintenance will also be a key factor. Buses should be quick, easy and less resource-intensive when it comes to maintenance. The market study will also assess solutions aimed at improving road safety for drivers, passengers and others who are on the road.

The market study will analyse a wide range of potential suppliers such as international bus manufacturers and official dealers in and outside of the European Union.

Rigas Satiksme earned revenues of EUR 184.044 million and profits of EUR 1.838 million in 2023.

The company offers bus, tram and trolleybus services in Riga, as well as management of car parks and parking spaces.
