On the night of March 3, the 97th Academy Awards took place in Hollywood, marking a historic moment for Latvia. This year, Latvian audiences eagerly followed the ceremony, as Flow, an animated film by director Gints Zilbalodis, became the first Latvian film ever nominated for the prestigious awards.
Flow received nominations in two categories: Best International Feature Film and Best Animated Feature Film. While it lost the Best International Feature Film award to the Brazilian movie I’m Still Here, it secured victory in the Best Animated Feature Film category, earning Latvia its first-ever Oscar.
