GAZ ENERGY currently has battery projects with a total capacity of over 2 GWh in various stages of implementation, of which more than 1 GWh is accounted for by projects implemented in the Czech Republic. The European manufacturer of large-capacity Li-ion BESS is now building on its experience in the domestic market by expanding into Poland, Germany, Ukraine, the Baltic States, Italy, Spain, Romania, and Croatia. According to the company, growing European demand for energy storage creates opportunities for further growth, with GAZ ENERGY building on European manufacturing, safety, and long-term technical support.
The European energy sector is rapidly increasing the share of renewable energy sources, and with that, the need for flexibility and energy storage is growing. At the same time, issues that go beyond battery capacity itself are coming to the forefront—cybersecurity, the origin of the technology, control over software and data, and the long-term availability of technical support.
This is precisely what GAZ ENERGY’s offer is based on. It manufactures Li-ion BESS in the Czech Republic, uses European software, and provides engineering, integration, and technical support from Europe. It designs systems with due regard for the European regulatory framework, cybersecurity and data security requirements, and the specific requirements of individual energy markets. In doing so, it takes into account, among other things, the requirements arising from NIS2, the Cyber Resilience Act (CRA), the Net-Zero Industry Act (NZIA), the Industrial Accelerator Act (IAA), and the Cybersecurity Act 2 (CSA2), as well as the requirements of transmission and distribution system operators.
“When it comes to large-scale battery storage systems, customers today don’t base their decisions solely on price and the number of megawatt-hours. What matters is who they entrust their technology, data, and part of their critical energy infrastructure to—and who will be able to provide them with support even ten or fifteen years from now. We see this as a major opportunity for GAZ ENERGY,” says Tomáš Lev, Sales Director Li-Ion BESS at GAZ Energy.
GAZ ENERGY is already demonstrating its European ambitions through concrete projects. Its current project portfolio exceeds 2 GWh across various stages of implementation. A significant portion of this portfolio is in the Czech market, where GAZ ENERGY is involved in two of the country’s largest battery storage projects, with a total output of 487 MW and a capacity of 980 MWh. The portfolio also includes projects in other European countries: in Finland with a total output of 82.5 MW and capacity of 162 MWh; in Romania with an output of 72 MW and capacity of 150 MWh, in Poland with an output of 30 MW and capacity of 60 MWh, and in Germany with an output of 17.5 MW and capacity of 50 MWh.
“This year, we delivered and installed 900 MWh in the Czech Republic. This is a significant achievement for us and confirms our ability to reliably execute large-scale projects from start to finish. We are applying this experience to other European markets,” says David Vodička, a member of the GAZ Energy Board of Directors.
