Estonia planning to multiply fares for county bus lines

According to a draft prepared by the Ministry of Regional Affairs and Agriculture, the prices of bus tickets on regional lines will increase several times compared to the present.

For example, a ticket valid for an unlimited umber of rides during 90 minutes will cost up to ten euros instead of the current 1.5 euros.

A 24-hour ticket will cost 20 euros instead of the current 4.5 euros, a 120-hour ticket will cost 40 euros and a 30-day ticket will cost no more than 150 euros instead of the current 25 euros.

A ticket for a long-distance route under a public service contract will cost 25 euros.

The explanatory memorandum added to the draft regulation says the increase in fares is necessary due to the continuing rise in the cost of bus transport and the need to acquire buses running on alternative fuels, which are significantly more expensive than diesel powered buses.
