Eight more Russian propaganda sites blocked in Latvia

Latvia’s National Electronic Mass Media Council (NEPLP) has blocked access to eight more Websites which were found guilty of spreading Russian propaganda. This was announced in a statement in the official gazette Latvijas Vestnesis.

Information from competent authorities indicated that the content of the Websites was in line with Russia’s aggressive war propaganda narratives, and so the NEPLP decided to block access to susu.ru, synergy.ru, klops.ru, 9111.ru, ngs24.ru, russkiymir.ru, zavtra.ru and klgd.ru.

The council declared that these Websites spread distorted and false information about events in Russia and the world, including the war in Ukraine. There are attempts to justify Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and to support the annexation of parts of Ukrainian territory by Russia.

The portals parroted propaganda from Russia about the “special military operation” in Ukraine. They have also disseminated information that is against Latvia’s independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity, the agency said.

“Such information in the Latvian information space may create a false impression of world events, negatively affect the co-existence of various groups in society, and pose a threat to Latvia’s national security,” the NEPLP stated.

Access to the relevant Websites will be blocked by denying access to domain names, IP addresses and mirror pages.

Internet service providers must immediately ban access to the Websites and their domain names, redirecting would-be users to the portal nelegalssaturs.lv (Illegal Content.lv).

Since the war in Ukraine, the NEPLP has blocked dozens of Websites with content that threatens Latvia’s national security.
