Just over twelve months after starting with a single 1 MW battery in Latvia, Capalo AI now has more than 1 GW of contracted BESS capacity across the region, with Estonia set to follow later this year.

Capalo AI has passed 1 GW of contracted battery energy storage system (BESS) capacity in the Baltic States. Just over twelve months ago, the company’s first asset in the region was a 1 MW BESS in Latvia. Today, close to 400 MW of BESS and close to 400 MWp of solar are under live optimization across Lithuania and Latvia.

The Baltic portfolio includes some of Europe’s leading infrastructure investors and developers. Several have returned to Capalo AI with second and third projects, including the owner of the company’s very first Baltic asset, who has since signed two more.

The live portfolio includes 13 hybrid parks, where battery storage and solar generation share a site and a grid connection. Capalo AI optimizes these parks as a single asset, deciding when to sell solar output directly, when to store it, and how to allocate battery capacity across Day-Ahead, Intraday, and balancing markets.

All Baltic assets run on Capalo Zeus VPP™, the company’s turnkey service for battery and hybrid asset owners. Zeus VPP™ covers route to market, multi-market trading and optimization, and Balance Responsible Party (BRP) and Balance Service Provider (BSP) services, taking assets from prequalification through to lifetime value maximization. For owners, that means one partner handles market access, trading and grid obligations, while the asset is continuously positioned across the markets that pay best at any given moment.

Alongside Lithuania and Latvia, Capalo AI is now bringing its optimization and trading expertise to Estonia, with plans to go live later this year.

“We entered the Baltics just over one year ago with a single 1 MW asset. In this period, we grew from 1 MW to over 1 GW of contracted BESS capacity, and the owner of that very first asset has since signed two more projects with us. That says everything about what we are building here. The growth continues,” said Dainius Velykis, Regional Manager, Baltic States, Capalo AI.

1 GW is not the ceiling, Capalo AI’s Baltic portfolio continues to grow.
